R V QuizCorp is one of India's Biggest quiz clubs
and conducts Asia's Largest Quiz Fest Under The Peepal Tree
R V QuizCorp is the quiz club of R V College of Engineering, one of the finest private institutions in the country. Since its inception in 1998, RVQC has evolved into one of the best known clubs in national quizzing circuits. Being one of the few quiz clubs in the country run entirely by students, we have created and nurtured many quizzers and quizmasters who are highly respected across the country. Our members assemble week after week at club’s most popular hangout, “On the Rocks” in Cubbon Park, to discuss and plan future quizzes and to share interesting ‘fundae’. To promote quizzing culture in RVCE and for the sheer thrill of quizzing, the members of RVQC also organise quizzes every month on topics as varied as sports, music, movies and politics.
RVCE is the only institution in the country to have sent three teams to the prestigious BBC University Challenge Quiz hosted by Siddharth Basu on BBC World. A team consisting of final year students was invited for an exhibition round to kick off the inaugural season of the BBC University Challenge, where they were pitted against Glasgow University, U.K. Since then, two pre-final year teams have made it to the televised rounds in the inaugural season (2003) and the second season (2004). RVQC has dominated the quizzing scene not only in Bangalore but all over the country, winning quizzes at IITM, NLSIU, VIT, and NITK to name a few places. QuizCorp has also gained a reputation for conducting mind-boggling quizzes, having had some of India's most renowned quizmasters among the ranks at our prestigious club.
What do we do?
When one comes across the phrase ‘Under the Peepal Tree’, his thoughts become focused on a larger than life scene of Buddha, serenely seated under the shade of a Bodhi tree, enlightened. It is not exaggerating to say that today, the phrase ‘Under the Peepal Tree’ conjures similar thoughts in us. What this quiz fest has achieved is a legacy.
Under the Peepal Tree was first held in the year 1998, by RV QuizCorp’s visionary founders Avinash Mudaliar and Gopal Sreenivasan. What was then a simple idea has grown and become a quizzing mammoth it is today. UTPT, as it is fondly known as by quizzing junta has been held every year since. And today, it is Asia’s largest quiz fest attracting people from all over India, both for the high standard of quizzing as well as the bountiful rewards for the winners.
Here’s where being a geek will work in your favour. If you switch on the TV only for The Discovery channel, if your magazine subscriptions include the Scientific American and if your favourite board game is Monopoly, get ready to win some serious money in this science, technology and business quiz.
Find out if it was all worth it. Staying up late into the night for all those matches. Comparing team stats. Making your dream teams on fantasy leagues. Has all the stress of last overs in India-Pak matches, football penalties and nailbiting deciding sets in tennis taken a toll on you? Or will it be the reason you walk away with a fatter wallet?
Do you watch an episode a week or a season per day? Have you only watched the movie or read the books too? Do you only listen to the radio or is your ipod running out of space? If all your anwers were the latter options, then your best option would not be to “tread lightly”. Lieut-en-ent quiz should be your cup o’ tea.
Bonus points if you can tell us when Leo will get his Oscar.
